FAQ’s about Lighting
The Elite®: Maximum Output And Durability
Q: What kind of maintenance is required for Metal Halide Light Fixtures?
A: Metal Halide Light fixtures should be cleaned of dirt and bugs once a year to maintain optimal light levels.
Q: How often should the lamps (bulbs) be changed?
A: Metal Halide Fixtures should be re-lamped every 5000 hours. Depending upon your hours of operation, this may not be in your budget. Plan to at least re-lamp every other fixture every year to keep foot candle levels at an acceptable level. Cleaning and re-lamping the fixture together will save time and money.
Q: I’ve known some owners who have changed from Metal Halide Fixtures to Fluorescent. Should I be changing my lighting system?
A: The technology of Indirect Metal Halide fixtures for tennis facilities still surpasses the technology of fluorescent fixtures. At this point, the foot candle levels would be compromised in a tennis facility if fluorescent fixtures were used in comparison to Indirect Metal Halide Fixtures. As far as energy savings, a watt is still a watt regardless of what fixture is used. If your current light levels are not meeting your expectations, it might be as simple as cleaning and re-lamping your fixtures.
Q: Can ICA help me figure out how many fixtures I need to maintain optimal foot candle levels?
A: ICA can provide and review photometrics that are needed to make sure that optimal light levels are achieved in your club.
Q: What kind of foot candle levels should I expect with an indirect metal halide fixture?
A: Attached are the foot candle levels from the Elite Light fixture in both an 8 per court layout and a 10 per court layout. The photometrics on the attached documents are based on the Elite Light Fixture shown in conjunction with ICA’s Energy Miser Insulated Ceiling System or the Reflective Fabric Ceiling.
